Yesterday's chronicle of Andrew Zimmern's adventures in DC saw the Bizarre Foods host paying a visit to José Andrés and cooking with The Source's Scott Drewno since he arrived here to shoot an episode of the show over the weekend. But the man was also in town all day yesterday, hanging out with the food trucks over by the State Department and boy was it ever the most superb day one ever did have.
Zimmern got the day underway aptly noting the gap that food trucks fill — in particular in that State Department area: "Food truck scene in DC is deep. So many Govt buildings, no restos in or near them. It's a food desert and if not for the trucks..." Then he got down to the taste-testing, starting with the "[s]uperb tacos de lengua from Chucacabra." Then Zimmern appreciated the "[s]uperb art direction from Hulagirl" and also declared some Afghan Kabobs to be superb as well.

But which truck was the best? Well, in an apparent attempt to fill out his José Andrés bingo card, Zimmern tried Pepe and determined that it had the best food of all the trucks he tried.
By the end of the day, Zimmern retired to J&G Steakhouse in the W for dinner, noting that the seafood "is pretty insanely awesome" and later tweeting to his buddy Jean-Georges Vongerichten that "your team in DC makes some lovely food. salmon, oyster, lobster all terrific... Great service too. superb."
Ever the busy guy, Zimmern's already out and about today, trying out some Ethiopian food at the "great place" known as Habesha Market in the U Street area. Let the Twitter stalki
