While Mount Pleasant neighborhood favorite Radius was awarded a shutter reprieve earlier today, U Street is not so lucky with word that its Italian mainstay Coppi's Organic is the latest restaurant to temporarily close due to the Louis at 14th renovations currently tearing up the neighborhood. Prince of Petworth has first word from a reader who sends in a picture of a sign on the door explaining that the restaurant will close on July 14 and reopen in 2013.
Coppi's has also posted farewell notes on its official website and Facebook page, the latter of which thanks customers for their patronage and hints at a big going-away bash:
"We, at Coppi's, thank you all for all of your support throughout these years! We have met some amazing people and have made some great friends over the years! Sadly, we are informing all of you that we will be temporarily closing on July 14, 2012 due to renovations and the Louis, JBG Project of 14th and U Street. We will be holding a going away celebration on our final Friday, July 13 and our Final evening Saturday, July 14. Please stay tuned as we will have event information sent out soon!
So for those fans of the neighborhood restaurant, be sure to clear your schedules for Friday and Saturday for a last crack at Coppi's Eater reader-approved pizza.
