Sprinkles Will Unleash Its Cupcake ATM on Georgetown

The nightmarish world in which there are no gourmet bakery-bought cupcakes to be had in the middle of the night is about to change: Sprinkles has revealed plans to open one of its earth-shattering cupcake ATMs right here in DC. Sure, we've known for some time that the LA-based bakery was planning to open a local version of the ATM that took Beverly Hills by storm earlier this year, but the Washington Post has the scoop that Sprinkles will open the ATM outside its Georgetown location sometime next month — the date is not firm as they haven't begun installation yet.

And don't worry, non-Georgetowners who also crave cupcakes at midnight: Sprinkles could possibly be headed to other parts of the city, too. As reported back in March, the bakery was considering locations in Gallery Place, the U Street corridor, Dupont Circle and more local neighborhoods and a rep tells Eater that those are all still on the table for the future.

UPDATE: Per Sprinkles' VP of Marketing Nicole Schwartz: "Since the Cupcake ATM in Beverly Hills has been selling over 1000 cupcakes a day, it has been necessary for our ATMs to be attached to a bakery to fulfill the demand. Once the Cupcake ATM at our Georgetown bakery is up and running, we will work on branching out to other locations around town."
