Say Farewell to Soft Shells; Sietsema's Convention Picks

New, 1 comment

DOWNTOWN—This weekend, BLT Steak launches into two weeks of soft-shell crab madness with a menu devoted just to them from August 18-31 to usher out the season. They'll be pan-seared, polenta-crusted, roasted with veal, slapped on a sandwich and more. Further, chef Jon Mathieson is hosting a soft-shell cooking class on Saturday from 12:30-3 p.m. The class includes a four-course lunch and costs $100 per person. Make reservations by calling 202-689-8989. [EaterWire]

ZOMG POLITICS—Well, the Democratic and Republican national conventions are coming up in Charlotte and Tampa, respectively. Since a lot of Washingtonians will obviously be attending, Tom Sietsema has cased out each city's dining options — though beware as the critic notes "both are equally ... middle of the road." [WaPo]

DUPONT CIRCLE—Prince of Petworth reports that Sweet Diablo soft-opened this morning at 19th and M street. Apparently this is the chain's first US location and it's supposedly well-known for its chocolate cake, but they also have pressed sandwiches, salads, coffee, tea and more. [PoP]
