News broke yesterday that sister restaurants Cafe Green and Java Green are seeking donations totaling $40,000 to pay off their tax debt and reopen their doors. This morning, the DC Office of Tax and Revenue sends Eater the tax lien documents indicating that the total tax debt is a staggering $133,334.06 from a "failure to remit withholdings (taxes collected from employees) and sales and use (taxes collected from patrons) payments to the District for multiple tax periods."
