Welcome to Front & Center, a series highlighting front of the house professionals in Washington, DC restaurants. Right now, Dan Silverman, the blogger behind Prince of Petworth, writes about Shannon McCarty, a bartender who splits her time between Solly's and Boundary Stone:

My favorite front of the house staffer is Shannon McCarty who bartends at Solly's (11th and U St, NW) and Boundary Stone (1st and Rhode Island Ave, NW.) It obviously helps that Solly's and Boundary Stone are two of my favorite bars in the city but Shannon makes them even better.
Not only does she always remember my drink (at Solly's Bud and Powers on the rocks, at Boundary Stone whichever Dogfish Head is on tap) but she's an incredibly interesting person. When's the last time you talked to a bartender who had just returned from Myanmar? Shannon possesses that essential bartender trait of being both a good listener and a good story teller. Add this to the fact that she doesn't suffer fools lightly and it makes sitting at her bar a very pleasant experience.
