MERRIFIELD—Missy Frederick at the Washington Business Journal toured the restaurant-heavy, Target-anchored Mosaic District site in Merrifield yesterday, and reports that RJ Cooper of Rogue 24 will open a new, yet-unnamed restaurant at the development. Set to open in the spring of 2013, Cooper's high-end concept will take up 5,000 square feet on one level, with 2,000 square feet of rooftop space. Frederick also mentions that the new outpost at Mosaic from Houston-based Mexican restaurant Cyclone Anaya's will include a large patio. [WBJ]
AWARDS SEASON—While Devils Backbone Brewing Company from Roseland took home the "best in show" winner of this year's inaugural Virginia Craft Brewers Fest, three Northern Virginia breweries made a strong showing out of 24 breweries. Northern Virginia Magazine listed the winners, with Capitol City Brewing Company's Oatmeal Stout winning gold and Port City Brewing Company's Porter winning bronze in the Dark category, Port City Brewing Company's Optimal Wit winning bronze in the Belgian category, and Lost Rhino Brewing Company winning silver for their Rhinofest in the Lager category and silver in the Specialty category for their Rye Wit. PETWORTH—Thrillist shared some meaty details about the menu at Epiphany Open Pit Beef and Subs, a new Petworth BBQ joint. Menu items include ribs, Philly steak, au jus-dipped Prime Rib Dip, and platters or Kaiser rolls filled with pulled pork, turkey, and beef brisket. Also mentioned: something called a "pickled 'Cuban Reuben' with multiple smoked meats (turkey, ham & pulled pork)." [Thrillist]
