'Global Dancehall' Tropicalia Opens Tonight on U Street

New, 1 comment

Opening tonight just below Lost Society is a brand new "global dancehall" Tropicalia, the latest project from Local 16 owner Aman Ayoubi. As a press release notes, this 3,500-square-foot club is "inspired by the essence of Brazil's 60's punk-art-avant-guard," but will pull from other cultures to serve as "a fusion point for the spirit of cultural piracy." As for the space:

The main bar is a focal point made from milk-colored Plexiglass and steel, backlit with thousands of programmable LED lights. Cloud-like chandeliers drift overhead above the main bar, while the warm glow of hand blown glass comforts the second bar.

Doors open to the public at 7 p.m. and the No! BS Brass band will perform at 8:30 p.m.
