There are a lot of numbers to keep it mind when considering today's soft-opening of Ballston newcomer World of Beer. This latest branch of the Florida-based chain offers anywhere between 500 and 550 beers at any given time, with 50 beers on draft and about 10,000 bottles in cold storage. There are more than 200 seats, with about 100 of those out on the patio, plus 25 televisions that are 51 inches each.
Beyond the numbers, franchise owner Evan Matz explains that all the beers they'll be rotating in and out of the taps will be exclusively craft beer, so no Budweiser, Michelob or PBR. As at the other locations, the more varieties of beer you drink, the more rewards you can get — and there's a smartphone app available to help you keep track of what beers you've already tried and what you've yet to try. There are all kinds of happy hours — service industry, military service, ladies night, etc. — plus live music on Wednesday through Saturday evenings.
As for the menu, well, World of Beer is definitely more bar than restaurant, but they do have a limited menu that includes items such as chicken sausages, brats andouille sausages, hot dogs, pretzels stuffed with jalapeno cheese and fish sticks. While the bar's official debut is tomorrow, Matz says World of Beer is already soft-open for any and all of its Facebook and Twitter fans — which basically means that it's open.
