WBJ's Mike Neibauer unearths some news in his daily permit search. It looks like Oyamel is gearing up for an expansion, or at least a renovation. From his report:
A permit was issued this week for interior demolition of floor finishes, wall finishes, millwork, partitions, lighting pendants, bathroom fixtures and the walk-in cooler. An Oyamel employee who answered the phone there Wednesday morning said the restaurant will be expanding come February, but he could not offer additional details.
Eater reached out to ThinkFoodGroup to get some more color on what's going on. There's definitely some design changes in the works, but they aren't sharing many details. From the company: "Jose Andres and ThinkFoodGroup are currently reviewing design plans for Oyamel Cocina Mexicana. We look forward to sharing the details of this project in the coming months, but we do not have any more information to share at the moment."
Could Oyamel be in for a Jaleo-style refresh? Stay tuned.
