Monica Bhide is mostly known to the DC restaurant community as a food writer and cookbook author. But now, she can add chocolatier to her resume.
Bhide has collaborated with chocolate-themed restaurant and retail operation Co Co.-Sala to sell a new line of chocolates to Valentine's Day customers. Bhide, who frequently writes about spices, helped develop the flavor profiles and the restaurant came up with the actual products. "I approached them with the idea of using my expertise in spices to pair with their delightful chocolates," she said. "I wanted the focus to be on aphrodisiac spices...We talked about a few combinations and then they went to work and did their magic."
The SpiceSutra Bar Collection, using flavors like saffron, ginger, fennel, cardamon and Indian rose preserves, will be on sale Feb. 4-6 for $30 a box at Co Co.-Sala, as well as online. If they take off, Bhide and the restaurant may continue the partnership.
