Whiskey. Made on the premises. Of Family Meal.
This report from local newspaper the Frederick News Post reveals that the city's planning commission has given the go-ahead for a distillery to be built on the premises of the Bryan Voltaggio restaurant in Frederick.
Update: Bummer. Though the distillery will be on the property, a spokeswoman for Bryan Voltaggio says that it will not be affiliated with the diner, and the original story incorrectly identified landlord Swordfish LLC as connected to the restaurant. "The landlord is leasing space to a distillery on their property, and more specifically, said distillery is not associated with the Family Meal restaurant," read an emailed statement. The team would not provide any additional info on the distillery.
The original article reporting the distillery linked the 10,000 square foot distillery with Bryan Voltaggio's restaurant.
The commission unanimously approved sending a positive recommendation to the mayor and aldermen for the city to change the law to allow such an operation. The decision paves the way for a distillery of 10,000 square feet or less. It would also apply to smaller wineries or breweries. Swordfish LLC...plans to rent space on that property to a distiller.
