The Sandoval Restaurants Are Getting Some New Desserts

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

The Richard Sandoval group of restaurants, which seem to be adding a new D.C. project every few months or so, has a new corporate pastry chef. Jose Luis Flores has the gig — he'll be in charge of the pastry menus for Zengo, Masa 14, both El Centro D.F. locations and the upcoming Toro Toro, as well as Sandoval's restaurants elsewhere.

That means new desserts for these places. Early additions will include coconut profiteroles at Zengo, a chocolate terrine at Masa 14 and a banana tres leches at the El Centro restaurants.

Flores is a veteran of Sandoval's company, having worked for Zengo New York and Toro Toro in Miami. He got his start as a dishwasher in Mexico City when he was younger and has worked as such places as China Grill, Alma de Cuba and Deseo, as well as for Emilio and Gloria Estefan.
