DCity Smokehouse, Zoës Kitchen Opening

1) Bloomingdale: Barbecue for Bloomingdale. Pitmaster Robert Sonderman, who has worked under such chefs as Jeff Buben, has teamed up with Revive Events & Caterers to open a barbecue restaurant called DCity Smokehouse, with meats smoked in-house and various sides. Some opening menu dishes include a briskey sandwich, shrimp po' boy, pork ribs and more. Here's the full menu. Status: Soft opening last week; grand opening Friday. 8 Florida Ave. NW; website.

2) Alexandria: Another location of Zoës Kitchen has come to Virginia. The Mediterranean-themed restaurant is opening on King Street, and giving away 500 meals on opening day (as well as free food for a year to one winner). The restaurant is known for salads, kabobs, pitas and healthy-leaning fare. There is room for almost 100 people at the new store, which will be open for lunch and dinner and serve beer and wine.
