Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken has lost its opening pastry chef. Jason Gehring is leaving the restaurant to "pursue other opportunities," according to a statement from the restaurant's owners. They've hired Elizabeth Masetti, who has worked with Volt and Clyde's, to replace him.

"We would like to thank Jason for his hard work in helping to launch Astro in the DC market, and we look forward to continued success and growth. The kitchen staff have been well-trained under Jason, and we are excited to have recently hired a new chef and kitchen manager," said owners Elliott Spaisman and Jeff Halpern in a statement.

The restaurant has been changing the menu already with the addition of Masetti. She's brought on a pecan pie doughnut and doughnut holes. Customer favorites like the creme brulee doughnut and sriracha fried chicken will remain in the menu. No word yet on Gehring's next move.
