From Ball or Nothing to Bao Buns: Beer and Welding Opens in Dupont Today

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

The operator of meatball food truck Ball or Nothing has a new side project: bao buns.

Proprietor Rob Miller is now running Beer And Welding out of the back station of Dupont Circle market Oasis Deli. There, the chef is cooking up pork belly, veggie and chicken confit Gua Bao-style buns four nights a week, beginning today.

Miller approached the owners of the mart about doing something different there during the evenings; he says he first met them when he cooked at the now-shuttered Mark and Orlando's restaurant. Though buns are the early focus of the pop-up, Miller may transition to tacos, sandwiches or other items eventually. His meatball truck is still in operation.

Find Beer And Welding on Thursdays and Fridays fro m5-9:30 p.m. and weekends from noon to 9:30 p.m. The first three varieties of bao are being sold for $4 each. They don't have a website yet, but can be found on Twitter.
