Restaurateur Michael White makes his D.C. debut today with the opening of Osteria Morini at The Yards development in Southeast D.C..
The restaurant, located at 301 Water Street, SE, is run by the Altamerea Group, and is the first place to open at the Lumber Yard portion of the development. The restaurant's cuisine is rooted in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, with Matt Adler running the show as executive chef. Expect cured meats, Italian cheeses, antipasti, homemade pastas and plenty of fish on the menu. There's also a wood-burning grill for roasts and grilled meats like steaks. Alex Levin, a veteran of Cafe Boulud and Apple Pie Bakery Cafe, is handling the desserts, while Jochem Zijp (recently of Range) is the beverage manager. Cesar Varela is the sommelier, and he came from Veritas. There are 20 wines by the glass, and more than 250 wines by the bottle (naturally, the wine list has a Northern Italian focus).
The space is more than 4,000 square feet in size. Status: Opening today. 301 Water St. SE; website.
