Shaw has a new brewery and brewpub in Right Proper Brewing Company, which opened earlier this week. The project comes from local beer authority Thor Cheston, along with partners John Snedden and Nathan Zeender.
The design has a lot of personality — in some ways, it shows the prevailing D.C. restaurant aesthetic, with lots of wood and exposed brick. But there are also little touches everywhere you look, from a panda mural to graffiti-esque artwork to decorative screens and standout pieces of weathered furniture. Visitors can get a peek at the brewing operation as well, along with those beers aging in barrels.
Chef Matt Richardson, formerly of 1905, has put together a menu that includes a Chick-Fil-A-esque fried sandwich and a killer burger, among other items. Opening beers include The Duke, a strong golden ale, and the pale ale Raised by Wolves.
