People in DC go crazy at the prospect of a decent sandwich (see: any Taylor-related news story), so anticipation has been high for the opening of Red Apron Butchery, Neighborhood Restaurant Group's charcuterie-focused deli and restaurant within Union Market. There are two more outposts on the way later this year — one coming soon to Mosaic District, and a larger one opening later in Penn Quarter. But what do folks think about the first incarnation? Here's the early buzz from Foursquare, Yelp, blogs and beyond on Red Apron.

The Vegetarian News: Think Red Apron is all about meat? Vegetarians can enjoy it too, if they order the grilled cheese. Washington City Paper highlights the three-cheese sandwich. [WCP]

The Super Bowl Snack News: Capital Cooking singles out the spicy Atomic Hot Dog as a great choice for game-day eating. It likely still tastes great after football season. [CC]

The Best Sandwich Ever News: On Facebook, Alex Villa says, "Just got an Italian beef sandwich at the Red Apron in Union Market and I'm trying to decide whether it's the best or second best sandwich I've ever had. Of course, it would be only second to the meatball sub which I purchased after inhaling the Italian beef..." [Facebook]

The Slow Service News: Also on Facebook, Brian T. Jacobson says the place seemed pretty overwhelmed on Day 1. But that said, "The wild boar pâté made up for the wait." [Facebook]

The Twitter News: @AnongirlinDC ?@AnongirlieinDC says she "had a lovely meatball sub at @redapronbutcher at@UnionMarketDC today." [Twitter]

The Legit News: Red Apron only has three reviews on Yelp, all of which lean positive. From Dwayne R.: "These guys are legit. Had the pastrami sandwich as well as the beef sandwich (not in the same sitting, LOL) and both were food heaven. The sandwich market in the city just got real interesting. I'm HOOKED!" [Yelp]

The Small Portions News: From Yelper Matthew P: "The porkstrami was particularly small, but tasty.  There were only two or three slices of meat in it, along with sauerkraut and a whole grain dijon mustard...The bacon meatloaf, served with pickled onions and dressed greens (arugula maybe), was awesome." [Yelp]

The Porkstrami News: Yelper Rob E. thought the porkstrami was amazing. "Probably the best sandwich i have had in a very very long time. I ended up buying some porkstrami to take home with me." [Yelp]

The Don't Forget the Beer News:
On Foursquare, users say, "The italian beef is amazing. The meat is great and the giardiniera is fantastic. Just the right amount of heat too! Don't forget to try the great beer selection too!" [Foursquare]
