Ramen for Valentine's Day, anyone? Arguably the most anticipated restaurant opening of 2013 is scheduled for the evening of Feb. 14, when the ramen portion of Daikaya is set to open its doors.
A spokeswoman for the restaurant confirmed that the first floor ramen section of Daikaya will open at 5 p.m. The entire restaurant from Daisuke Utagawa, including the izakaya portion, will open weeks later.
The restaurant from is from the owner of Sushiko, with Minibar veteran and Daikaya partner Katsuya Fukushima cooking there. The beverage program at Daikaya will offer sake and shochu, as well as Japanese-influenced cocktails.
The ramen section of Daikaya will seat 40 people, with the food done in the Sapporo style of ramen, with four different types offered. Lunch service will come soon after any kinks in dinner service get worked out. Yama Jewayni of 18th St. Lounge is also a partner. The team is also at work on Kiji Club at 600 F St. NW, a separate project.
Editor's Note: This article originally indicated that Kiji Club was adjacent to Daikaya, which it is not.
