Local gelato company Dolcezza is up to its fourth gelato shop and coffee bar in the region. The latest is opening in Mosaic District in Merrifield Saturday.
This Dolcezza is about 620 square feet in size (on the smaller side for the company), according to owner Robb Duncan. It's the company's first foray outside of the District, and they originally said "no thanks," Duncan said. But developer Edens impressed Dolcezza with Mosaic District's mix of local purveyors, and they eventually relented.
Dolcezza will offer 16 flavors of gelato and sorbet, and that number will go up to 20 in the springtime. The restaurant's coffee bar offers Verve coffee, as well as pour-over options from vendors such as Intelligentsia and MadCap. In honor of Virginia, there's a new gelato flavor: Peanut Butter Stracciatella. Dolcezza will serve pastries as well.
