Margarita-fueled partying on the roof of El Chucho soon won't be reserved for the warmer months. Owner Jackie Greenbaum tells Eater that the restaurant is currently constructing a roof to go on top of the popular Columbia Heights Mexican restaurant's upper deck, which will be heated.
Construction is about halfway done. The roof is very high-up so the space still feels wide open, Greenbaum said. The upstairs seating will be protected from rain and other elements this way. There are ceiling fans for air circulation, too. The front wall facing the street will remain open, weather permitting — otherwise clear vinyl panels can be put in place. Now who's thinking of summer in February?
