The next Matchbox restaurant is the chain's first Virginia outpost, and it looks like late March is the targeted opening date for the Mosaic DIstrict location at 2910 District Ave. in Merrifield.
Executive Chef Jacob Hunter will oversee the menu at this particular restaurant, and the restaurant group's familiar offerings, including spicy pizzas, signature sliders and popular brunch items, will appear at the latest restaurant, adjacent to the Angelika movie theatre. Matchbox will offer lunch and dinner, as well as weekend brunch. Some new menu items in the works include a crispy half chicken with bacon braised greens.
Matchbox Mosaic will have a pizza bar that seats 10, with two ovens that reach temperatures as hot as 800 degrees. The whole restaurant seats 220. Expect design elements like reclaimed wood, as well as a 40-seat patio with a fire pit set for spring. There's a "cube" table in the middle that seats six, as well as a Barrel Room with a fireplace that can also be used for private events. Matchbox will offer a "to go" station geared towards those who work in nearby offices, as well as busy parents.
