Derek Brown's Mockingbird Hill to Boast Sherry, Hams

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

Cocktail master Derek Brown is devoting a new project entirely to sherry and ham. That's the latest from Tom Sietsema, who brings word of Mockingbird Hill, the new bar opening at 1843 Seventh St. NW in Shaw.

This won't be a strict Spanish restaurant in the style of places like Estadio and Boqueria. Brown, who is behind The Passenger and The Columbia Room, tells the critic the food will be more for nibbling than sit down dining. The bar near the Howard Theater will seat 40, and hams such as jamon serrano and Iberico will be served there.

Brown talked up the resurgence of sherry on the Kojo Nnamdi show last October. Looks like he's doing his part to make the fortified wine even more prominent.
