Voting in the 2013 edition of Food & Wine's online popularity contest The People's Best New Chef® begins today, and DC has a particular interest in the Mid-Atlantic category. This year, the chefs from two of the city's hottest destinations are among the ten nominees for the region: Toki Underground's Erik Bruner-Yang and Mintwood Place's Cedric Maupillier.
As they explain over at Eater National, which has the full list of nominees, there are ten nominees from ten regions, and the internet masses have from now until March 18 to vote their favorite chefs to the top of the heap. Previous winners include Tim Byres and Jamie Bissonnette. It's basically a long list for Food & Wine's vaunted Best New Chef award.
Both of D.C.'s nominees had their restaurants recognized this year in the 2012 Eater Awards; Toki Underground won Restaurant of the Year, while MIntwood Place was designated "So Hot Right Now." Maupillier's also a semi-finalist for a James Beard Award for Best Chef, and Mintwood Place is a contender for Best New Restaurant there.
