So that oyster bar that's going in next door to Mockingbird Hill? It's from that restaurant's owner. Cocktail maven Derek Brown is partnering with Rappahannock Oyster Company's Travis Croxton on Eat the Rich, Tom Sietsema reports.
Named for the Motörhead song, the future watering hole at 1839 Seventh St. NW is a nod to the days when Washington brimmed with places to slurp oysters. The headlining bivalves will be served by the minimum of a dozen, a practice Brown says will keep the price of the oysters down. The seafood joint will feature "loud tavern music," "bare bones design" and (trend alert!) cocktails by the pitcher, says its creator.
The 67-seat restaurant should open by August. And Brown has a third project in the works that will have a Southern influence and a signature cocktail made with Benedictine, but beyond that he's not talking about it.
