Nationals Park Will Get Taken Over By Big Beer Festival

The city will have its own beer extravaganza come March 23-24, when the first DC Beer Festival is scheduled to take over Nationals Park. There are 80 breweries signed up for the new event, which will feature 200 beers. They're splitting the event into two sessions per day (each cost $40 to get in), with craft beer tastings, live music and games like bocce making up the rest of the days' activities, which are all spread out in different areas of the ballpark.

The purpose of the event is to promote the city's growing local beer culture, with such participants as Capital City Brewing Company, Chocolate City, 3 Stars Brewing, Bluejacket and DC Brau all lined up for the event. Those who show up for the event get unlimited samples of beer, but food's being sold separately.

Though not a D.C.-specific festival, D.C. has been the home of the Savor craft brew festival for years. That event, however, is being held in New York City this year; the organizers hoped the move would lead to more mainstream press coverage.
