For the staff and servers at the Dubliner, St. Patrick's Day is a game of numbers. This weekend, hundreds of revelers dressed in green will pack this Irish bar on Capitol Hill for pints of Guinness and shots of Jameson. Before the big day, the bar does a count on inventory to prepare for the crowds.
But, last year there was one number the staff didn't count on — a surprise visit from President Barack Obama. The president shook hands, posed for pictures, and raised a pint of beer at the Dubliner. And while it was an unexpected visit, according to the bar's owners this year they are prepared for just about anything.
To give you a better idea, The Dubliner gave us a look at last year's St. Patrick's Day celebration by the numbers. This year, they're ready for more of the same craziness.
Number of shamrock Jello shooters served: 500+
Kegs of Guinness Poured: 103
Number of times "Whiskey in the Jar" was played: 39
The most corned beef sandwiches consumed by one person: 13
Free taxis called: 10
Port-a-johns on the patio: 4
This year, expect live music from 10 a.m. until 2 a.m. on two stages, along with six bars pouring drinks.
