The D.C. area will be the home of the second BlackFinn Ameripub location in the country when the bar chain's Dunn Loring location opens at the end of April.

The Ameripub concept is a slight spin on the traditional BlackFinn bar, which has locations downtown and in Bethesda, explained Steven Ryan, an operating partner for Blackfinn in both D.C. and Virginia. The first Ameripub opened last month in Austin. "It's basically a modern, contemporary twist on the classic American pub," said Ryan. That means a wider food menu, a more open dining room and a larger beer selection. About 70 beers will be available on draft at the new location, which is adjacent to the Dunn Loring Metro and located in the same development as the new Lost Dog Cafe.

The menu at Blackfinn will include traditional pub fare, plus a range of entrees spanning from lasagna to pad thai. "It's a broad, diverse menu but really good, serious food," said Ryan. There will be a cocktail list and a large wine menu as well. There's a big island bar in the middle of the restaurant, plus a patio and a dining room. Blackfinn chose the location because of the proximity to the metro and the large amount of parking available. The restaurant, which opening in late April, is currently hiring. If the Ameripub concept takes off here, others in the D.C. area will likely follow, he said.
