Malgudi Offers Southern Indian, Small Plates

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

Malgudi, the new Glover Park restaurant from the Heritage India team, is now open, and a press release today offers some more color on what to expect from the Southern Indian cuisine there.

The restaurant, named after a novel by Indian author R.K. Narayan, is located below Heritage India at 2400 Wisconsin Ave. NW. Sanjeev and Mitul Tuli opened the place to give customers a taste of authentic Southern Indian cuisine, different from Tandoori and Moghlai dishes. Different regions of India have influenced the menu at Malgudi, whether it be the spiciness of the Andhra region or the vegetarian focus of the Karnataka state.

One focus of the restaurant's menu will be tiffin, or small plates, as well as the lentil dish sambhar. The restaurant has a large selection of dosas and uthappams, as well as several curry dishes and rice dishes. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. The entire menu is posted online. The restaurateur is also planning to open Crossroads downtown.
