Construction at George Washington University is forcing neighborhood mainstay Froggy Bottom Pub to relocate from Pennsylvania Ave. to K Street. That relocation is scheduled to take place May 1, as construction at the new spot at 2012 K Street (formerly Thai Kingdom) is moving along quickly.

Owners Hien and Hoang Bui enlisted the help of restaurant consultants Financial Foods to help reposition the restaurant to appeal to the K Street crowd while still being a familiar place for Foggy Bottom regulars. Streetsense's Alex Crawford redesigned the new space. "It's comfortable, and that's what they want — for people to feel like they're coming into their home," said Crawford. The menu will feature a few more salads and a few more entrees, according to Financial Foods' Adam Williamowsky. "It's definitely a bit healthier," he said of the food.

The space is about the same size as the original location, but this time it stretches over one floor. The bar will seat about 24, with four televisions. A stone wall in the back will be a focal point, explained Crawford. Most of the seating will be open so that customers of various party sizes can find room; there will be a few booths and a "power room" in the front corner of the restaurant that can seat between four and six people. Expect a sidewalk patio and a bar area that's partitioned from the restaurant. There's an industrial-looking ceiling and backdrop of neutral colors, with a muted green that plays to the "Froggy" part of the restaurant's name. There will be 12 beers on draft.

Those who frequented the original location will recognize some details. They're working to bring back the wall of customer photos and currency that regulars brought back from their travels in the back of the restaurant. Some of the lighting fixtures have been transported, and there will be familiar menu items, including the Pho that was added to the menu at customers' request.

The original Froggy Bottom location will remain open until the new one has been completed.
