Astro Makes Its Fried Chicken and Doughnut Debut

Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken made its debut this morning at 8 .m. (handing out free doughnuts in the process). A refresher for those struggling to keep their doughnut destinations straight: this one features the pastry work of chef Jason Gehring, a veteran of Fiola and Poste, among other locations. The fried chicken recipe is his grandmother's; the restaurant is owned by Elliot Spaisman and Jeff Halpern as well.

The small Astro location is pretty no-frills, with wooden accents and an emphasis on the restaurant's stark black and white logo. Pick up doughnuts ranging in flavors from peanut butter and jelly to creme brulle.
