A Look Inside Taqueria Nacional's Stylish New Home

A new home for Taqueria Nacional has been a long time coming. After a canceled plan to expand to Columbia Heights and two different attempts at securing the new space at 1409 T St. NW. The restaurant's new home opens today, and the restaurant will serve breakfast and lunch.

The design from restaurateur Johnny Fulchino has a weathered feel, with worn but bright color accents such as yellows, reds and blues. There's counter seating, a mural of a faded Virgin Mary on the wall, and several nods to the building's status as an old Post Office. In the mornings, such dishes as breakfast tacos, breakfast quesadillas and huevos rancheros will be served. Come lunchtime are dishes familiar to fans of the former Capitol Hill location, including a variety of authentic tacos. Still to come: agua frescas and margaritas for all. Streetsense worked on the project's interior design. Status: Opening today at 11 a.m.. 1409 T St. NW; website.
