A car jumped the curb and crashed into the building that holds Central Michel Richard last night, causing four people to be injured.
D.C. police Tweeted last night: "A single vehicle struck a Bldg. at 1100 Penn. Ave NW. PT sustained head trauma (non-life threatening at this time." The crash occurred between 6 and 6:30, causing street closures for about an hour.
The Washington Post followed up with a Central manager last night, who said no diners inside the restaurant were injured.
Update: It was unclear whether the injured people outside were diners, according to the Post report, though some eyewitnesses Tweeted that they were patio diners. A report from WTOP stated that one of those injured was a child, and at least one of those injured was on the patio at the time of the crash.
The accident caused a mess and some damage to the patio and restaurant, but Central remained open for service, letting customers in a side street entrance. Eater has reached out to a spokeswoman to check on damage estimates.
