Kebabs and a Clever Name: Meat in a Box to Expand

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

Step 1: Open Meat in a Box.
Step 2: Another Meat in a Box.

Falls Church kebab house Meat in a Box is expanding. The restaurant is opening a second location in Adams Morgan, according to co-owner Nadia Shahgoli. The restaurant owners have brought on a partner to add pizza to their offerings. The new place will be called Meat in a Box and Did Someone Say Pizza?

The restaurateurs have taken over a lease at 2005 18th St. NW. If permits work out as planned, the restaurant could open in the next 10 days or so, she said. Meat in a Box serves up chicken, salmon and beef kebobs, as well as falafel and a limited number of specials, such as lentil soup. The original location does a lot of carryout business, though there is some seating. The new location will primarily be carryout, Shahgoli said, with a slightly smaller menu than the original (not counting the pizza addition). "The late night crowd is a different demographic and has different needs," she said.

Shahgoli had always planned to expand the restaurant, but wanted to make sure everything at the original location was solid before venturing elsewhere. She'd like to add additional locations in the future. The Adams Morgan restaurant will originally be open during the evenings on weekdays, and for lunch and dinner on the weekends. That may change as they get to know the neighborhood, she said.
