Copperwood Tavern to Serve Game, Welcome Dogs

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

Game meat, a dog-friendly patio and a "woody" atmosphere are all in the works for Copperwood Tavern, the latest project from the Irish Whiskey team slated to open Sept. 1.

The restaurant, first announced back in the spring, is opening in Shirlington Village. Maggie O'Neill, who designed Irish Whiskey, is also working on the interior for this place, which will have room for 188 people. The restaurant is going for a wilderness feel, with a menu of local game, farm-raised chicken, beef and fish to match, along with largely portioned side dishes.

The bar will have 24 draft beers, 30 whiskeys and plenty of wine, along with moonshine from southern Virginia. Animals will be more than welcome — the porch is dog-friendly with dog treats and copper bowls for pets.
