NoMa office workers, get ready for another happy hour option. The TD Burger from former Top Chef contestant and local restaurateur Timothy Dean has set August 19 as its opening date.
This is the second TD Burger for the area (there's another in Largo); it's opening at 250 K St. NE, where Zuppa Fresca used to be. There's room for about 130 people at the restaurant, which will have five television screens to support different sporting events. There are high ceilings, and a patio will open eventually.
Dean says his half-pound burgers are made from grass-fed beef on a brioche bun, and tend to have a bit more fat content than your average burger. They're also charbroiled on a grill. "I don't understand why people are doing their burgers on a griddle," he says. "I've been cooking since I was about 12 years old, and you need a charcoal flame on it." The restaurant also serves up sides like corn on the cob, mac and cheese and sweet potato fries. There will be Neapolitan-style pizza at the location as well, and a dozen salads.
The restaurant's full service bar will have 50-70 craft beers, and 30 bottles of wine under $30. There will be both happy hour and "yappy hour" aimed at pet owners. As for future plans, Dean doesn't plan to stop at two restaurants. "I want to have a TD Burger in every major city," he said. "I've got big plans, baby."
