Smashburger, which has been marking its presence in the D.C. area with a restaurant in Fairfax and leases in Falls Church and downtown, just added another location to the roster. The chain has signed a lease for the Promenade at Virginia Gateway development in Gainesville. The Smashburger will be across the street from the new Regal Theater there.

A rep tells Eater the location will be almost 2,000 square feet in size and include outdoor seating. It will take awhile to open — they're thinking winter 2014. The chain is known for cooking its burgers on a griddle and smashing them during the cooking process.
