"If Union Market became more like a food court, I probably wouldn't go there anymore," said commenter CookInDineOut on a post yesterday about Union Market's changing identity. "For me, the principal attraction of the place is the availability of quality foods from small purveyors, such as butcher shops and greengrocers. That I can also have lunch there is great, but if that was the only thing it offered, I'd probably not visit, since it's a bit out of the way and there are other fine choices around. I went to Philadelphia's Reading Terminal Market earlier this year and was amazed by this huge, vibrant space with incredible foods. Union Market isn't large enough to ever be like that, but I think it could capture a similar spirit on a smaller scale." [-EN-]
