The last week of August in D.C. is assumed to be sleepy, but there are two big openings happening tonight. Here's the rundown:
1) Shaw: Modern American restaurant Thally opens tonight at 7:30 p.m. The restaurant is a labor of love of Ron Tanaka, Sherman Outhuok, and Pablo Sacco, and will spotlight ciders, housemade sodas, avocado BLTs, and less-used cuts of meat. Eater took readers inside Thally's stable-inspired interior last week, which features plenty of sweet custom vinyl wall graphics. Starting Wednesday of this week, the restaurant will begin its normal hours, with the bar opening at 5 p.m. and the kitchen opening at 5:30 p.m. Status: Opening tonight at 7:30 p.m. 1316 9th St. NW; website.
2) 14th Street: A rep confirms that tonight is the opening for Doi Moi, the new Thai and Vietnamese street food concept from the team behind Estadio and Proof. The restaurant's downstairs cocktail bar "2 Birds 1 Stone" is also opening this evening. Status: Opening tonight. 1800 14th St. NW; website.
