ALEXANDRIA— Talk about dedication. Chef Shannon Overmiller of The Majestic decided that participating in "Fit for Hope, " a twelve-week weight loss fitness challenge benefitting the American Cancer Society, wasn't enough. So she shaved her head as a visible reminder of her support for the charity. Overmiller, who lost both parents to cancer when she was a teenager, is also donating a portion of proceeds from The Majestic's Pu Pu platter to raise money for the challenge. [EaterWire]

METRO CENTER— Starting tomorrow after the lunch rush, Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken will debut doughnut ice cream sandwiches. Yet another pastry acting as a vehicle for ice cream, get excited! There will be two variations to choose from: raspberry verbena ice cream on a passion fruit doughnut sandwich or a Brooklyn Roasters mocha java ice cream on a chocolate doughnut sandwich. Both will be priced at $5.25 each. [EaterWire]

ALEXANDRIATNT Bar's Julien Bourgon is the winner of the title of D.C. Craft Bartenders Guild's Best Rickey 2013, taking home the prize at yesterday's Jack Rose Dining Saloon bash for his War Pig Rickey. The drink consists of housemade cantaloupe soda, Bulleit Bourbon, lemon juice, and floating melon pieces frozen via dry ice, instead of ice cubes. Try the drink at TNT Bar, albeit without the frozen melon. [EaterWire]
