Just two weeks after opening, U Street Mexican restaurant Diego is now closed and in negotiations with a new chef, Young & Hungry reports. Co-owner Michael Askarinam told the Washington City Paper that the closure is temporary, and Diego will reopen when a new chef — reportedly someone well-known — is in place.
As for the timeline, that's uncertain. What is certain is that Askarinam told Jessica Sidman he wasn't happy with the restaurant's service and the food during the past two weeks. He let the original chef and staff go, although hopes to hire some of the staff back upon reopening. Eater reached out to the restaurant, and will update as more information is known. —Adele Chapin
