The long-in-the-works Compass Rose Bar & Kitchen has hired a chef. John Paul Damato will handle the cooking for the street food-focused restaurant, opening at 1346 T St. NW.
Previously, Damato worked for ThinkFoodGroup as executive chef for all the area Jaleo restaurants. He did some additional work for chef José Andrés, on his cookbooks, and with the opening of his restaurants in the SLS Beverly Hills. He also spent time at Restaurant Nora.
Owners Rose Previte and Mike Schuster are trying to give Compass Rose a global focus, serving street food from stalls across the world. They're also planning a cocktail list focusing on "lesser-known countries" and a wine list with interesting varieties from places like Croatia and Georgia. A February opening is planned.
