Bangkok Joe's is Now Mama Rouge, Serving Pommes Frites Alongside Pho

The Georgetown waterfront restaurant has a new name, look and menu.

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

Waterfront staple Bangkok Joe's reopens today as Mama Rouge, a Southeast Asian bistro with a menu that draws from Thai, Vietnamese and French cuisine.

The owners are the same, though they worked with consulting group VSAG (Founding Farmers) on the changes. Dishes will include Pho, noodles, barbecue, banh mi, pommes frites, shrimp dumplings and more. A French-leaning brunch menu includes crepes, omelets and pastries.

D.C.-based Collective Architecture designed the space, which has room for 100, as well as a patio. Focal points include a zinc-topped bar, red leather bar seats, splashes of gold and teal and bistro-inspired furniture.

Mama Rouge opens today for dinner. Lunch will kick off next Monday, and brunch starts Oct. 25. Status: Opening for dinner today. 3000 K St. NW; website.
