Old Ebbitt Grill continues to bring in the big bucks. The D.C. institution was ranked third on Restaurant Business Magazine's annual Top 100 Independents list.
Old Ebbitt reported $26,687,861 in sales and an average check of $40 to the publication (the rankings are based on 2013 figures). Many of the stats on the lists have the caveat of "estimated sales," though Old Ebbitt doesn't. Also on the list for D.C.: The Hamilton, also from Clyde's Restaurant Group (almost $18 million), and Sequoia on the Georgetown waterfront (ranked #34). Several of Virginia's Great American Restaurants were on the list, including Coastal Flats and Sweetwater Tavern, along with Virginia's Willow Creek Farm and Maryland's Tower Oaks Lodge (also from the Clyde's Group).
Las Vegas' Tao Asian Bistro tops the list with more than $64 million in sales. The site's definition for "independent" wasn't listed; several of the restaurants have multiple locations. Here's more on the rankings from Eater National.
