Still need a plan for Halloween? Here are five food-friendly ideas for this Friday:
1) Mockingbird's Hill's 2nd Annual Toast to Poe
Where: 1843 7th St. NW
When: October 31
What: The sherry bar is continuing its annual celebration of Edgar Allen Poe's short story The Cask of Amontillado. There will Amontillado Sherry for $4 a pop, special bites, a toast to Poe, and a spoken adaptation of the The Cask of Amontillado at 7 p.m. More info here.
Where: Marvin (2007 14th St NW), The Gibson (2009 14th St NW), Den of Thieves (2005 14th St NW) and Patty Boom Boom (1359 U St NW)
When: October 31, regular bar hours
What: Each bar is doing their own theme, so start the night at Marvin's "Trick or Treat" party and score some candy, then go next door for The Gibson's "Drink Yourself to Death" sorta downer-of-a-party where the bartenders will be dressed as famous people who "literally drank themselves to death." Patty Boom Boom will become a "Haunted (Dance)hall" and folks will be dressed up as zombie versions of reality show stars at Den of Thieves's "Reality TV is Dead" party. Prepare the Jersey Shore zombie costumes now.
3) The Queen Vic's Clockwork Orange Halloween
Where: 1206 H St. NE
When: October 31, 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.
What: Clockwork Orange-themed cocktails await at The Queen Vic's party inspired by Stanley Kubrick's classic film and Anthony Burgess's classic novel. More info here.
