D.C. drinkers knew it was coming. It's officially the end of the road for Derek Brown's cocktail bars The Passenger and Columbia Room — at least in their current locations. Both bars will officially close January 1, according to the Washington Post. Their block on Seventh Street NW is being redeveloped, and now construction is beginning and the space needs to be empty by January 4. Sister bar Hogo was already a casualty of the changes to the block.

The Columbia Room will move into a much-larger space above The Dabney, Jeremiah Langhorne's upcoming restaurant in Shaw, with the hope for The Columbia Room to open at the end of 2015. Tom Brown, Derek's brother, has not found the right place in Shaw for The Passenger just yet, according to the report.
