Thousands of people traveling to town on business end up at a conference or meeting at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. That number is only growing thanks to the opening of the affiliated Marriott Marquis hotel last May. Meanwhile, even locals might hit up at the convention center for annual events like the Washington Auto Show and other expos.
It wasn't long ago that there were only one or two options for decent food near the Convention Center; the best a person could do was grab a hot dog or sad sandwich from the vendors inside. But the area has become revitalized with many restaurants and bars, the opening of CityCenter, and several more high profile openings planned in the next year or two.
This list is broken out by need — quick bites close to the Convention Center, spots for a sit down lunch or standard dinner, restaurants to host a formal business dinner, places that are good for large gatherings, and, of course, bars to grab a few drinks. Consult the map for more details.
(Note: The Convention Center stretches over 0.2 miles. All distances are calculated from the Mount Vernon Place entrance of the Convention Center.)
