Winter may not be the busy season for restaurant openings, but that doesn't mean D.C. won't see some interesting new additions in the next couple months. Here's what to get excited about, in no particular order.
1) China Chilcano
Address: 418 7th St. NW
From: Jose Andres/ThinkFoodGroup
The Situation: On what has become Jose Andres Block, the chef will open this Chinese-Peruvian fusion joint (which will owe some similarities to China Poblano in Vegas). There may even be guinea pig.
Projected Opening: January

This restaurant will be more seafood focused than the 14th Street original, and include takes on more classic Greek dishes. Even more eyes are on this project courtesy of George Pagonis' recent Top Chef appearance.

Editor's Notes: Also prepare for New York-based The Melt Shop (February), Maketto (early 2015), Stella Barra and Summer House Santa Monica in North Bethesda (January), the Brookland and Takoma locations of Busboys & Poets, Mason Social, Richard Sandoval-affiliated Mango Tree (January), the beachy Orange Anchor (January), Bar Union Social (March) and the CityCenter Dolcezza (March) this winter...The Big Stick and Beau Thai in Shaw should still squeak by with a fall opening...no updates were available on Mercadito at the new Marriott Marquis hotel, or Citizen Burger Bar...restaurants like The Dabney and the D.C. Momofuku won't likely arrive until spring.
Know of another winter restaurant opening? Send us a note at dc@eater.com and we'll update our list.
