Boloco is Closing its D.C. Location

The global burrito chain says "the D.C. market has been tough for us."

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

Boston-based burrito chain Boloco is closing its only D.C. location today.

"In the spirit of honestly that is so important to us, we want to share the reasons for closing," the company said in an email blast. "The DC market has been tough for us. We struggled to build awareness of who we are and what we do. We also struggled early on with operations and, though we were eventually able to improve our operations, we unfortunately never were able to win back many of the guests that we had initially disappointed."

Boloco also opened a place in Bethesda — Eater has reached out to the company to see if that location will remain open. UPDATE: As for Bethesda, a spokeswoman says they are "exploring all options for the Bethesda location that will provide the best long-term benefit."

The company plans to compensate its employees through year's end and try to help them find other jobs in the area.
